Vitamin A and the new legislation
Vitamin A and the new legislation
In 2027, new European legislation will come into force that limits the permitted concentration of vitamin A in cosmetic products. As of 1 November this year, imports of products exceeding the new restrictions will cease, and from 2027, products that exceed the limit may no longer be sold in the EU.
Vitamin A is widely recognised for its significant enhancing and rejuvenating effect on the skin and is one of the most well-documented active ingredients within skin care.
At Beauté Pacifique, we have used vitamin A since our beginnings because the ingredient has such an amazing enhancing effect on the skin. We are known for our effective vitamin A creams, and therefore it is of course natural to wonder whether the legislation will have an impact on our products. – We can already reveal here that it does not.
The new regulations governing vitamin A
The legislation covers the concentration of vitamin A permitted in a cosmetic product, including the variants: Retinol, Retinyl Acetate and Retinyl Palmitate.
The purpose is to ensure that too much extra vitamin A is not consumed when combining vitamin A from cosmetic products with vitamin A-rich supplements and other significant dietary sources of vitamin A, such as salmon and liver pâté.
The new guidelines dictate that there may be maximum concentrations of up to 0.05% in products for the body and 0.3% in facial products.
This concentration has already been the recommended limit by the EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety, whose guidelines we follow. (SCCS – Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety).
Will the legislation affect Beauté’s products?
As previously revealed, the legislation will not affect our products, which will continue to be produced and formulated as usual. All our vitamin A products already fulfil the new requirements.
When we incorporate vitamin A into our creams, we also formulate it into the creams in such a way that it is delivered into the skin using a special Squalane-based transport system [link]. In this way, we transport the vitamin safely into the skin, where it is released continuously with long-lasting effect.
